in character,
A quaint white marines coat covered a white draping cloth wrapped around a long crimson set of clothes. Augusta, petty officer of the marines somehow found herself in Goa City, the capital of the Kingdom of Goa. At her side was her trusty katana she always carried in the style that suited her way of fighting best, just as her master had taught her so many years ago. In fact, after so much time, she would feel naked without it on her person.
The city was bustling, but not crowded to the point of discomfort. The only thing that gave her the heeby jeebies was the looks that some of the nobles gave those that served them. As if they were less human than themselves. It was that attitude so prevalent in this town's ruling class that irked her.
Being one of the only marines here, her ship and its crew staying mostly at the harbor, she garnered a few looks. Her crimson hair with a tint of purple made sure of that. Whispers followed her quietly where ever she went as people wondered what the marines would be doing in Goa City. As it was, their captain was speaking with the royal family about increasing pirate activity in East Blue and wanted to warn the people of Goa about the dangers.
This train of thought was interrupted with her stomach growled quite loudly. Mmm. Maybe I should get something to eat. she thought to herself.

Shore leave was given to the marines in Goa City, for the weekend they were able to do what they pleased but had to report back promptly at the end of the weekend. Tardiness would be met with severe punishment, that was the way of the marines. At least it was such with Tomaka and his crew; he had his share of problems already or at least the mistakes that were made. He had tried his hardest to be careful to not lose his shore leave and thanks to some shred of luck the young marine had gained his small vacation.
He wore his typical marine outfit with the short sleeve shirt but left the cap absent. The cap wasn't a piece of the outfit he favored and decided to leave it behind but would sport the rest of his uniform proudly. Strapped to his back was his key weapon his Nodachi the Ginryuu from his grandfather. It was a bit unconventional to carry around a weapon when relaxing but he wanted to always be ready. It was a situation where he'd rather not need it and have it than need it and not have it.
The Petty officer wiped his forearm across his brow feeling a bead of sweat hit it from his walking around. Trailing his hand to his stomach he felt a light grumble from it accompanied by a sigh from his lips.
"Time for eats."

in character,
Goa's restaurants were quite plentiful and provided a wide variety of different foods, most of which were quite tasty. Combine that with the nasty gruel that most marines were forced to eat on the ship en passage to pretty much any location, and you get a human that truly appreciates the culinary masterpiece of pretty much any home cooked meal. Augusta's stomach wanted something to fill it, thus, she made a b-line to the nearest place that didn't seem run down. Food for the wealthy didn't hold a place in her heart, and she would rather eat with the normal people of the town anyway.
A warm air hit her face as she slid into the doorway, drawing the eyes of everyone in the room for a second. The murmuring voices that seemed so constant died as they all noticed her vibrant hair color, and the marine jacket she was wearing as well as her katana, the crimson handle peeking its edge out of her clothing. She looked around kindly and smiled, but the edginess of the place took a few more seconds to finally die out and everyone to return to their own business.
Less than warm welcome aside, the food surely smelt wonderful, the meats, vegetables, and even the ale made her mouth water. A nice chair on the side beckoned to her, and Augusta answered the call, sitting down quietly to herself, though there was room where she was sitting for five or six more people to sit with her. After all, the bar man didn't seem to appeal to her as the kind of man that wanted her to sit up there and talk.
A quick order and her food was on the way to being prepared. She just couldn't wait to tear into some real morsels of food!

He began browsing the different locations to sit down and have a bite to eat. The man contemplated whether he wanted a nice place to sit down or a place where he could get a quick meal to go. That was certainly in a large abundance all around him from small stalls to take out shops. Thinking it about he might want a mixture of the two, perhaps some place small where the meal was quick and delicious. That would have to be a decent talent. cooking something that had speed but tasted as if time had been put into it.
It had been quite some time since he had a home cooked meal and the food provided by the marines was doing a number on his stomach. Sub par rations on the ship each day unless the chef got into the mood to do something special which was more than unlikely. Sometimes it had felt like he was eating rocks or some other muck for the soul purpose of keeping his stomach from turning inside out on itself.
After a short time of wandering he came across a small place that had people floating in and out. The wait seemed quick and they had satisfied looks on their face, hopefully it was what he was looking for. As he neared the door he was given a few looks and could hear a few comments being made. "Great another one..." He rose his brow at the hearing of the small remark and made his way inside. Looking around he found the place to be fairly quiet with people sitting and what looked to be enjoying their meals.
At one spot in the room it seemed a woman had garnished most of the attention. At her side he could see the handle of a weapon and it seemed most of the looks were directed at her. Now he understood the comment a bit more, she was a marine and he just added to some sort of trouble. By glancing at her she was no one he knew but that wouldn't stop him from at least getting a conversation. He made his way next to her and cleared his throat with a smile.
"This seat taken?"

in character,
At least the atmosphere of the room had lightened. Though they weren't exactly happy to have a marine sitting in their midst eating, at least the people didn't outright make the time unendurable. After all, if one couldn't relax when on leave... would you ever get to? And the chair was comfy. Her crimson hair enveloped her shoulders slightly as she sunk in her chair a little, closing her eyes and sinking into a pleased more or less stupor.
Only a minute or so later, a child walked up and tugged at the bottom side of her coat, on the side opposite of her sword thankfully. Peaking out of her right eye, she looked at the little girl with her amethyst eye summing up what had basically woken her from a light meditation. The adults in the area looked quite perturbed as if she were going to slap the poor little boy into the floor for having the audacity to touch her.
Of course, this wasn't in her nature, and Augusta reached down and ruffled his hair with a smile gracing her mouth, outlining a gentle, flowing face. He tugged again and asked her all about the marines in a series of rapid fire questions to which she giggled and responded to in kind. "Well... the marines protect the people to the best of their ability. I won't justify some of their actions, but I for one will do everything I can to keep the nasty pirates away from the people. And you can't join just yet. First grow up big and strong for your mom ok?" She smiled again and watched as he ran off.
Just as she settled back in, the tension in the room returned and another shadow settled over the doorway. Another marine entered and made his way over to her seat. He spoke smoothly, asking if the seat was taken."Well aren't you suave today? No no, sit.. sit. I would love to have a meal with you." As if on cue, the nice waiter set a nice meal in front of her complete with a variety of meats and vegetables with a tall glass of juice.

Tomaka sat himself down and shook his head to the woman giving a slight chuckle then sighing.
"Me suave? Nope, I'm just a simple mountain boy new to the military world."
After pushing himself in he looked around the restaurant seeing people give them glances while eating their meals. For some reason they looked like an odd pair of people, possibly because of being marines or possibly because the two carried weapons so freely. "Petty Officer Tomaka Hinoshi by the way, fourth fleet." He placed his hands on his lap and took his Nodachi from his back placing the weapon down to the side right beside him within his reach.
His attention was drawn to her sword looking at its size seeing the relative difference in his to hers. A katana by the shape of it but he wouldn't know a thing about the blade until he saw it. "That's an interesting weapon, do you practice swordsman ship?" He felt a strong sense of pride in his own use of a sword and found it enjoyable whenever he could sit and talk to someone else who practiced. His grandfather enlisted a strong sense of pride in Tomaka for how to respect the sword and respect whom used a sword with pride.
From what he saw from other marines they more commonly used ranged rifles and pistols. Higher ranking officers seemed to carry a different specialization in their weapons like long ranged rifles. Swords were common among marines but Tomaka was still forced to learn how to use a basic rifle in order to help subdue pirates at range. He was allowed to deny carrying the rifle but at needed times he was going to be required to use it.

in character,
The marine man chuckled and smoothed his way down into the seat. His black hair looked interesting, if a tad messy, but his marine uniform didn't have any major flaws. Augusta had seen the man before, and nothing came up that would put her off about his character. He seemed nice enough. So she let him sit while she waited for her food.
Picking up her fork, Augusta ate with a delicacy but voracity at the same time. The food was so good! She sped up, working her way through parts of the mean and eating the veggies with quick snaps as she bit them into pieces. All the time, her manners were still quite on par with most. In fact, the woman really didn't know how to eat any other way. It was like riding a bike. One didn't forget how to pedal, swing a sword, or eat without being rude.
But it would also be rude to ignore the man, so she listened as he questioned her about her sword as well as give her a little information about himself. A petty officer like herself and his name was all she really got. "Its a pleasure to meet you. I am Petty Officer Augusta Zenith. Oh! This baked fruit is so good!" She said taking a bit of the next dish. It was sweet, but still so tender and smooth while it also sent a warm wave down her throat when she swallowed.
She looked at her sword quickly, noting that she still hadn't responded as she had been distracted by her food. "Ah, this is just my katana. I was trained quite a long time ago, hopefully I am not too rusty." Her gentle smile returned, offering a little bit of an ironic hint as well. She knew very well that she wasn't rusty. Her skills had increased dramatically over the years since her master had just up and disappeared. That, along with daily training amounted to a well toned weapon if she needed to be.
"Are you interested in swords as well? I notice the handle above your shoulder. The true art of the ancient blade and techniques is a rare tread path in this age." Her inquiries were completely in good humor and curiosity. If he was really interested, he might order some food and start more dialogue.

Tomaka ordered a dish of his own after she had gotten hers, the waiter at first thought he had screwed up until he was corrected that Tomaka arrived late. He was first given his drink though which was just a small cup of water. He might decide to get a bit of ale after but for now he just wanted to sedate his appetite with a drink. He was quick to take a few sips of it as she started her meal feeling refreshed already. A smile came across his face as he set down his cup and relaxed in his chair.
"Pleasure is all mine Augusta, I've seen you around before but I guess this is the first time I've had the chance to talk to you." After a short bit he was given his meal as well, a basic steak dinner. The meat was cooked to perfection and on the side of it he was given a baked potato with carrots and asparagus. A delicious meal to help him keep his strength up and stay in fighting form for his duties.
"I do have a an interest in swords yes." He placed his hand on the hilt of his Ginryuu gripping it tightly, he shifted it around to show her its length. "It's a Nodachi given to me by my grandfather as a going away gift of sorts for joining the marine. But I'm still a decent shot with a rifle though I think it's a bit of a burden to carry it around with this weapon." He nodded in agreement with her, when he left the island he found that he saw more guns than any other weapon so far.

in character,
With one final bite, Augusta finished her entire meal, feeling nice and full, but not overly so. Making herself weakened over something as simple as food was foolish for a marine that might be called to duty at any time. Her sword needed to keep its skill and speed, not dull it through minor pleasures. But since her meal was gone, she could direct the attention back completely to her new friend across the table who had just received his own meal.
She responded to his comment, waving it off. "I'm no one interesting to meet." Waving her hand a little up and down, "I just do what I'm told." She smiled though and listened as he continued telling her about his interest in swords, which apparently they both shared. He even showed her his nodachi, which was quite pretty, if a little gaudy. What would one expect from a family heirloom though. She could still remember some of her's from before they were razed to ash.
Then he mentioned having skill with guns. That was more off-putting than interesting. Augusta was a swords-woman at heart, and using guns just seemed like a breach of that pact that one makes with their katana and self to follow the way of the sword. Her smile faded a bit, but it wasn't like she was mad, just the connection seemed weaker than a moment ago. "I don't use guns; they seem... unnecessary to those that follow the way of the blade."
Folding her hands and placing them in her lap, Augusta leaned back in her chair, still listening to the man.
