The town had grown more and more silent with each passing moment, the sun setting into the blue ocean waves. Families tucked their children into bed and blew out the luminous candles in their homes. In the quiet town, only one building still remained lit in these midnight hours, a rarely utilized, rundown structure that was once the town library. But the war in Centaurea had not been kind to the building, much of the books were destroyed and falling apart. In the dead of night, only the silhouette of a woman could be seen from the outside window, a book in hand.
The book itself was not very interesting to Carina Quinn. A simple cautionary tale written by someone trying to get kids from the temptation of piracy. It detailed a young boy who set off to sea to try to be a pirate, only to die alone in the middle of the ocean. The inaccuracies of the story astounded the blue-haired woman, though she knew propaganda was rarely known for its accuracy. Setting the book down, she looked around the destroyed facility, once full of information and knowledge. Now, ripped pages and torn covers lined the ground. Was there anything for her to learn in the walls of this ruin?
As she gazed upon the destruction, a noise managed to catch her off guard. Surely no one else would be exploring the library, especially not at this hour. Was it some kind of animal that now called this place home, or something else entirely…

"Relax."
The words were sharp and honed in on the figure that managed to hear his steps. He guessed he wasn't the best at creeping up on someone and these ruins did nothing to aid him. Creaky floorboards and books were strewn across the burnt floors. There was nothing even enticing about this old library and the town had long abandoned its use. There were only a few committed to rebuilding and reviving that which was lost, but such would take years despite their hardened resolve. The reason for Gabriel coming here wasn't for research or to read any theories. Instead he had noticed the female in the window from outside as he passed by. There really weren't many people on the island that frequented the use of a book. So to see someone this late in the shell of a grand library piqued his interest.
"You have interest in these old ruins?" he questioned as his form came to the light of the candle. Admittedly, he had ventured here only a few times out of boredom and a couple out of exploration of anything he could find. Yet the tattered and rough pages didn't hold many answers or at least understandable answers. He had given up on the place an was curious as to why a woman like her would spend her nights here. There was far more entertaining things to do with life. So why not just enjoy it all? There was time for reading when one grew old.

A man’s voice broke the silence of the destroyed library. So it seemed Carina was not the only one drawn to the ruined pages of literature and history that lined these walls. Was he another scholar interested in the island’s remnants of the war? Was he a wanderer who called this place home? His voice told her to relax, but she still remained on edge whenever strange people approached her. Of course, she was not exactly a pushover if the man attempted to try to attack. “Have you never been in a library before? You aren’t supposed to talk in here,” Carina cooed, her face emotionless and unresponsive.
Carina did not make eye contact with the man as he entered into her peripheral vision, instead her eyes transfixed upon the book she held open in her hand. The man had asked her about the ruins as he stepped into the candlelight. His raven locks fell over his crimson eyes, yet his demeanor was calm and nonchalant. Shutting the book closed with a small clap, Carina turned and gave the man a brief glare. With a sigh, she placed the book back on the decaying shelf as she wondered what the man’s true intentions were. “And you don’t? It’s the one place on this island that’s hiding a few secrets.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] - It seemed that this female was truly caught up in the rapture of the library as she presented one of the library's golden rules. The male couldn't do much but let that of a smile rest on her face. It seemed that he had caught someone who had a head for knowledge, no matter if it had been destroyed or in a lesser form. Gabriel moved towards a lone wooden chair that held a single candle on a nearby wooden table. His digits seemed to play with the flame as it hovered over the object.
"Not really." he acknowledged about whether he really thought much about this aged and ruined area. His hand now propped up his face as he stared at the rather "blue" woman. Was she a native to this island just as he was? If so, how come he had never seen this unusual woman before? "Let me guess." he paused scanning her for a quick second. "You're the type that finds that of relics and antiques interesting?" he nonchalantly predicted about her. After all, who would be here in the black of the night. The pair of his crimson eyes continued to eye the female wondering exactly how she would respond. She seemed like the strong willed and independent type so far in the manner she carried herself.
"Gabriel. It's my pleasure to meet you."

The man answered her question, seemingly having no interest in the secrets these ruins held. A typical opinion of an uncivilized man, one Carina was not surprised to hear come from his lips. Her eyes continued to scan the shelves of books. Most contained no information, simply stories and fairy tales, or books she had already read. The scholar had hoped to find some rare books or information on the Grand Line, but there was nothing. It was no surprise that the most controversial books would have been caught up in the destruction of the island’s war, but it was still a disappointment.
He had made an accurate guess about her before introducing himself as Gabriel. Though she had yet to search the entirety of the facility, Carina could only assume there was nothing in here of any interest. She turned to face the man who had interrupted her search of the library. “Carina. And I can’t understand how you aren’t interested.” she said with a sigh. “There are islands in the world that only a handful of people have ever reached. Treasures that have not been touched for millennia. And they’re all in the most dangerous places in the world with bloodthirsty killers all vying for the same thing.”
She stopped, placing her hands on the table, and looked across at the man standing across from her in the candlelight. “What’s there not to be excited about?”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] - Carina. It was such a foreign yet elegant name as the word rolled off the tip of his pink tongue. He played with the name reciting it several times underneath the hushed air. If anything he had thought himself a bit equally developed in the brain and brawn theory. Though things like reading wasn't something that he frequented, unless it had a large benefit to himself. And nine times out of ten it never did, so the action itself was pretty rarely done. But with the way Carina so coyly described everything she had read made it seem like they had been reading different books.
"My oh my. How about you give me the Carina's Choice list and I start reading what you read? Because the typical books never sound like that." he cooed with his eyes still intently on her frame. She indeed did a marvelous job in describing that which she red. But was it something that was true? Did she know the actual location to any treasure? With her appearance and character, she certainly didn't seem like the good two shoes type.
"Now tell me. If you know all of this, then why haven't you made any actions to get off this rock and towards those goals at all?" he humbly asked with a even larger cheshire grin on his face. This was the part where he and his own ship certainly would come in after hearing her explanation.

With a roll of her eyes, Carina averted her gaze to the rest of the library. So the man was intrigued by her knowledge. Well, she did not know much. She had a basic understanding of the world and its history, but there was still so much to be seen and learned. In any case, it seemed that he only wanted the information that would lead to wealth and fame. “What’s the fun in that? Finding the information yourself is half of the fun.” she said with a smirk.
Though the man’s next question somewhat surprised her, his apparent interest in why she was on such an island in South Blue. Wasn’t the answer obvious? “Because the real adventure is in the Grand Line, and I don’t have the resources. And the South Blue just doesn’t seem have anyone stupid enough to try to get there.” she explained, her words hanging in the air. Most crews could not even make it inside that death trap, let alone survive once there. Of course, all she had were stories and rumors of that place.
“So while I wait to find someone with a ship and a deathwish, I figured finding out about this island couldn’t hurt.” Briefly, she wondered why she was even speaking to the man. She still had no idea why he had come into the library in the dead of night.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] - Half the fun? There wasn't any interest in "fun" as Corina had claimed. The only thing that mattered at the end was the treasure lying beyond the trials and tribulations. Those were the only things that a crew needed other than infamy. Not everyone wanted all the misfortunes and the likes that carried along with it. It would be nice if everything was easy as pie but that certainly wasn't the case. Every dog'gon thing required patience and perseverance. Two traits that he never really tested himself on but would rate his mettle as a man. Yet he wouldn't retort with such an ill thought to the scholar. Her mind definitely was pretty set on her opinion and the need of persuasion was currently absent. Despite that, Gabriel was beginning to take a fancy to this icy woman. The best approach to her definitely wasn't by saying the wrong things to throw the conversation off key. But to rather gain a minimal amount of trust from her and make future investments, just like he planned with the others he recruited for the voyage.
"The Grand Line?" |
[/color][/center] He had heard dozens of stories and tales about that part of Oceania but never saw it in person. But the reputation it held was fucking fearless, causing the most ominous pirates to fall on their knees. Carina was completely correct though. Someone would have to be immensely stupid to traverse to that region. Fortunately for Gabriel, there was no difference between stupidity and courage. While her words stung, he still forced himself to casually listen to her. That is, until she expressed her goal of finding someone that was stupid enough and had a deathwish to take her to that very line. "What if I told you you're looking at someone that can give you just that?"[/color] he uttered nonchalantly as if he was a man that granted a thousand wishes. "In due time I plan to make it there, but I'm assembling a crew to journey the very Blues for now until we're a bit more prepared."[/color] His intentions had clearly been revealed in full display of his chicanery. "And I think I could use a woman like you on board for personal reasons." [/color] If her taste of adventure was so strong then how could she decline to such an intriguing offer. Was her thirst for knowledge truly as strong as Gabriel believed it to be? It had seemed as if she managed to catch Gabriel’s attention with her little speech. Though he did not react to any of her stories, he spoke up upon mention of the Grand Line. It was a common thing to raise a brow to, considering it was widely considering the location’s reputation. Most people would think that a woman like her would be idiotic to go into that forsaken part of the world. But of course, everyone had heard the rumors, the treasures and mysteries waiting for anyone strong enough to make it to the ends of the world.
It was what happened next that surprised the blue-haired woman. It seemed that the raven-haired man sitting before her was the captain of a ship, gathering a crew for a journey into the Grand Line. While the man still remained an enigma, Carina was nevertheless tempted by his offer. Right now, he was her only lead into the Grand Line. Still, could she really set sail with a man who she did not know? “Personal reasons, you say?” she asked, clearly calling the man out on his suggestive wording. “If what you’re saying is true, let’s see this ship of yours.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] - And it seemed the spider had found himself a curious fly stuck in his web. He could feel that he had nearly convinced the woman to join his side. Though like a person of greed, she would need to intake more of his fleeting words before fully taking the bait. But he wasn't exactly lieing about the ship of his. Though it wasn't anything extravagant, it was definitely something large enough and great enough for a grand start.
"Two days."
|
[/color] he recited, placing two digits high in the air for her to see. "The Black Plague will be completed in two days and will leave this island. If you're leaving this rock with me then I guess you'll have to be there. And then in exchange for boarding you can become that of my wench."[/color] The words quickly tapered off with that of a stab. The final deal had been placed on the table and it was up to her whether or not if she would accept it. Regardless if she said yes or no, the venture would continue without her. "So what'll it be?"
